Privacy and cookies

What we collect

• Enquiries: the name, email, phone and message you send to an agent, so the agent can reply.
• Accounts: your name, email and password (stored encrypted), plus your shortlist and saved searches.
• Listing reports: the details you give when you report a listing.

Cookies and local storage

• Session and security cookies keep you logged in and protect forms. They are needed for the site to work.
• Market cookie ("market", kept for one year) remembers whether you see the Kenya, Australia or International version of the site.
• Currency choice (KES, AUD or USD) is kept in your session.
• Area unit (acres or hectares) is kept in your browser's local storage.

We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.

Working out your country

On your first visit we work out which country you are in, to choose the Kenya, Australia or International version. If our hosting provides your country directly we use that. Otherwise your IP address is sent once to a country lookup service (api.country.is), which returns only the country. We save the market in your cookie, and keep the country result on our server for up to 30 days against a one-way hash of your IP address (not the address itself) so we don't need to look it up again.

You can change the market at any time with the switcher at the top of every page. Your choice always overrides the detected country.
